“What is MATHNASIUM?”
MATHNASIUM is a learning
center where kids can go after school to boost their math skills.
They are highly specialized.
They only teach math. The program is for students in grades 2 to 12
Students can attend instruction an unlimited numbers of times a week
for about an hour to an hour and a half. Just like a gym or heath
club, you can drop anytime.
The goal is to significantly
increase your child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts,
and overall school performance.
After setting an appointment, with Director of Operations Ann Stengel of MATHNASIUM. Located in a shopping center off Carpenter Fire Station Road in Cary.
I wrangled my nephew (Jaxson) an 11year old fifth grader, to MATHNASIUM, on a Wednesday night for about an hour’s math review. I was immediately greeted by a friendly staff, where a test binder was waiting for him. And, with my nephew at ease in a well designed atmosphere, he was quickly to work. I was lead to the office, where the MATHNASIUM program, was introduce in detail, a truly inspiring mathematical program.
After
the test session was over, I thanked them for their time and while
walking back to the car, (after reminding him to tie on his shoes) I
asked him what he thought about the program, the answer supersized
me, here is what he said. “I’ve never seen math presented that way,
I understood it, just never seen it. It was fun, one problem I was
stuck on but I worked it out. (Describing the math problem, a world
wind of strategic calculation, that I would need a compass and guide
to understand) I wouldn’t mind going back it’s different.” This,
fellow Uncles and parents alike is a rave response from my nephew.
It is from this spark of interest, a strong foundation can be made,
enabling progressive learning of new math concepts. Collage days
will soon be here for him, and regarding the mathematics inherent in
every course, he will be ready, maybe with shoes tied.
MATHNASIUM Program:
An after school program where
kids from 2nd to 5th grade improve their math
skills.
Their Goal is to enhance your
child’s math skills, understanding of math concepts & overall school
performance. The program builds your child’ confidence, yielding
overwhelming results.
Children don’t hate math.
They do hate being confused and intimidated by math. With
understanding comes passion, and with passion comes growth, a
treasure is unlocked. The key to understanding math is Number Sense.
Number Sense does not develop
accident. It is the result of a process of encounter and interaction
with a specific set of concepts and skills presented in a way that
makes sense to the learner.
MATHNASIUM builds Number
Sense, and with it a deep understanding and lifelong love of
mathematics.
Used with great success in
both public and privet schools as well as with privately tutored
students since 1974 by creator Larry Martinek (Los Angeles
celebrated “Math Guy”)
MATHNASIUM is the best there
is: a time tested, personalized program, that employs diagnostics,
direct instruction, direct instruction, guided practice,
manipulative, and games to build Number Sense. MATH does not
intimidate or confuse MATHNASIUM students: MATH serves them.
